audrey, you're my girl...

this year for father's day, we went to Elkton, VA, and stayed in a PATC cabin with my parents and brothers, and the hermans(my dad's sister Elizabeth, her husband Stephen, and my cousins Hunter and Sasha). dogs came as well and we had to hike 0.4 miles from our car with everything(including the grocery store my mom packed), which wasn't bad except for the sharp incline on your way out.
sunday morning while we were having breakfast, adam had tied audrey out on the deck and she fell through the rails and hung herself. it was tragic and so unexpected. we will remember her with lots of love and have told isaac that she got hurt and can't live with us anymore. he has accepted that we "just have a cat now mommy". we buried her in the woods further away from the cabin and put wildflowers on her. it put an immense sadness on the rest of the trip, and we continue to miss her, especially being home now and finding her things around the house. in addition to this loss, 5 of us have how come down with a 24 hour stomach bug.

i don't want to say that this trip was terrible, because the communion with family was wonderful, and i am thankful for their presence and ability to help us remove isaac from the possibility of seeing audrey.

yes, that is a bag of trash on her head...

I am so sorry Audrey is gone. I sometimes wake in the middle of the night crying. It was really a horribly sad trip. I wrote PATC about the details as well as the sickness: the count is now up to 10out of 12 people. Only Isaac and Ezra didn't get sick, thank God.

I am too so sorry for your dog. I can't imagine. Which cabin was that? It looks so familiar and we have stayed in atleast 15 PATC cabins. What fun!
