i know this is kinda hard to see in this size, but this is the top of his femur
bottom of femur(at knee)
so thursday morning fairly soon after breakfast, isaac and ezra put some couch pillows on the floor and were jumping on and off of them(a common morning activity) while i did breakfast dishes and started bread. out of the corner of my eye i saw ezra fall on his right hip and start crying but i told him he was okay and asked him if he wanted some ice on it and where did it hurt. i scooped him up and sat him on my lap and put some ice on his hip. he screamed louder. thankfully i had my hand around his right thigh and had pushed down a little with my thumb on the top of his leg and felt bone move. so we quickly threw on shoes(and some of us clothes) and drove to the hospital(around 10am). they sent us to get an xray almost right away(thankfully screaming babes get ER priority) and confirmed he had fractured his femur. they gave him some motrin and we proceeded to wait until 6:30pm for the surgeon(who had other surgeries scheduled) to set his leg. they took him into the operating room(even though they didn't have to cut him open or anything) to give him general anesthesia, re-set his leg, and cast him. meanwhile uncle matt and aunt julie and caleb brought us subway in the waiting room(thank you thank you thank you!). once he woke up we gave him some apple juice and took him home. he slept throught the night(woke up once crying but i told him it wasn't morning yet and he went back to sleep). yesterday morning and this morning he has been VERY ANGRY about being in a cast. i think in his sleep he forgets it is there and that leads to a very rude awakening. when he gets mad about it he tenses his whole body which makes his leg hurt and he starts screaming again. he's also very frustrated about not being able to use the toilet. we had been potty training for the past two weeks with wonderful success and not being quite in a sitting or laying down position means i have to hold him over the toilet(he weighs a ton! great time to be pregnant...) and try to aim him. his cast has an opening to stuff feminine pads for him to pee on, but he hates them and would rather still use the bathroom. adam told me i was crazy for even thinking about using cloth diaper soakers instead. this is going to be quite a fun six weeks.
he actually fell asleep waiting in the emergency room
(as long as i didn't move him)
what a toughie!
isaac the comic relief
the nurse gave him a beanie baby snake(great distraction) and we watched A LOT of animal planet when it was needed
and then it was finally time to go into the OR
the grand finale

oh ezra! what a total bummer. you are still so stinkin' cute even with a big cast on.
aww! Susanne you have your hands full! I am wondering if you will still be visiting?
heck yes we will. anything to get a distracting change of scenery!
